One-hundred and thirty of the world's fastest triathletes - 65 elite men and 65 elite women - will compete in the draft-legal, Olympic-distance race (1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, 10-kilometer run) contested at Mission Bay. The venue is adjacent to Fiesta Island, which hosted the world's first-ever triathlon on Sept. 25, 1974.

The ITU World Triathlon Series is an innovative series that allows the world’s top athletes to compete head-to-head on an ongoing basis. Expanding upon the previous single-day World Championship, the format features seven world-class events and an exciting Grand Final. San Diego will be the second stop in the 2013 season.

Water temperatures are anticipated to be between 63F (17C) and 66F (19C) degrees in April.
